Types of Chambers

Soft Shell Chamber

Horizontal Chamber: 

  • This is the most common chamber for personal and professional use. 

  • Advantages: affordable, portable, can fit two people lying down. 

  • Disadvantages: Needs to be set up on a floor or secure table, to prevent rolling off. Looks and feels like a coffin. Window turns yellow/opaque quickly. Short service life under heavy use.

  • Disadvantages: Only one manufacturer, unknown quality. Short service life under heavy use.

  • Disadvantages: Small door, small windows, requires a camera unit and microphone to communicate.

Acrylic 

  • This is what most hospitals use. 

  • Advantages: Bed is a gurney system with rollers, much easier to get on/off the bed outside of the chamber. Clear tube, easy to check on patients, larger door than steel. 

  • Disadvantages: May be hard to keep the glass tube looking “clean”, acrylic may discolor over time, Lower maximum pressure than steel.
